Today I’m setting up and reviewing the Hennessy Hammock called the Explorer Ultralight A-SYM Classic Zip.
This is a side entry hammock shelter with a full zip cover. It has a weight limit of 250lbs so if your on the heavy side this is probably not the shelter for you.
It packs up small 4″x8″x10″ so it doesn’t take up too much room in your pack and weighs in a 2lb. 2oz. total including the rainfly/canopy and the tree straps. Note: the Snakeskins add a little bit of weight but its not even enough to notice. The Snakeskins are great because they attach to your setup and you never have to take them off. They keep your hammock from getting dirty also and makes things super easy when packing up. It’s super easy to set up but if you get into trouble and you start scratching your head, Hennessy put the setup instructions on the stuff sack.
The hammock fabric is made up of 70D Taffeta (160x90 count)
Mesh is a 20D polyester No-See-Um
Canopy is made of 30D High tenacity PU / Silicone coated nylon ripstop66. A parallelogram short side 70″, long side 120″, short diagonal 128″, long diagonal 140″
Webbing straps are 1.5″ wide by 42″ long
Suspending ropes are 2 10′ long ropes with a 1500lb. test weight
This hammock is great if your 6′ or even a little taller as I am 6′ and I have plenty of room. It has a nice gear loft built in to hang stuff you might need in the night.
I love this hammock/shelter as It’s is very comfortable and I have had some of my most amazing nights sleep in this hammock so kudos to Hennessy Hammock for making such an amazing product. It served me very well on a 6 night backpacking trip in Yosemite National Park and I still continue to use it today. It has never let me down after years of use. Click here to purchase.
