Ok, so here we go again on another great piece of footwear from Italian shoemakers AKU
This is the AKU Fastalpina GTX Gore-Tex hiking shoe. It comes in 2 colors…Gray and green so not very many choices but they make up for it in quality, craftsmanship and comfort.
I have used these on several multi-day backpacking trips as well and countless day hikes and they get more and more comfortable the longer I wear them. Even after 2 years now they still look great and are not anywhere near falling apart. Even the outsoles are still going strong and not even close to being worn out. Plus they are lined with Gore-Tex to keep your feet dry and comfortable over a long time.
They breathe exceptionally well to but the only down side I can think of is that they are a little on the hefty side. The lacing system works great to keep your feet in place with minimal sliding and the Vibram outsole is stellar and the trail and grips in all types of terrain from mud to rocks and roots to even really wet stumps. I really like the heal pull tabs too as they make getting them on a breeze.
All in all, the Fastalpina GTX from AKU is one hell of a trekking shoe and well recommended.
